Richmond H. Ferguson III

Richmond H. Ferguson III, of Latrobe, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Born Oct. 15, 1931, in Latrobe, he was a son of the late Richmond H. Ferguson and Beatrice Clark Ferguson. He graduated from Latrobe High School in 1949 and St. Vincent College in 1953. He then served for two years in the Army with the Military Police. Upon completion of his military service, he enrolled in George Washington University Law School and graduated in 1958 with a Doctorate of Law degree. Mr. Ferguson began a private law practice in Latrobe in 1959. Over the years, in addition to his private practice, he taught Constitutional Law at St. Vincent College, and Commercial Law at Robert Morris College, and for the American Institute of Banking. For three years, he served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, assigned to the Occupational Disease section of the Department of Labor and Industry. Mr. Ferguson was a member of the board of directors of Commercial Bank and Trust Company of Pennsylvania for 32 years. He was active in Republican politics through the l970's, having been elected a state Republican committeeman, and served on the Executive Committee of Westmoreland County, and was chairman of the Latrobe Republican party. He also chaired the Latrobe Juvenile Commission for two years. A long time member of Latrobe Presbyterian Church, he served as a deacon and a trustee, in addition to teaching Sunday School for five years and serving as an usher for several years. In 1989, he formed Ferguson Law Associates, which soon included his sons, Michael and Terrance. He retired in December 2009, having been in active practice for 50 years. As a long time member of Latrobe Country Club, he enjoyed many rounds of golf with his friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Loretta Mensch Ferguson; two sons, Michael, and his wife, Pamela, and Terrance, and his wife, Meg; and five grandchildren, Kelly, Katie, Lindsey, Daniel and Adam Ferguson. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Ronald C. Ferguson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 11:00 AM at the Latrobe Presbyterian Church, 428 Main Street, Latrobe PA 15650 with the Rev. Clark R. Kerr officiating.
