Peggy M. West, 54, of Latrobe, died Friday, May 1, 2009, at home. Born Feb. 25, 1955, in Latrobe, she was a daughter of Margaret C. (Frisky) West and the late John E. "Hap" West. She taught elementary school at Holy Trinity School in Ligonier, as well as in the Derry Area School District. She graduated from Latrobe High School as part of the class of 1973. She graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she also served as president of her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. She later earned her master's degree in religious education from St. Vincent College and then went on to develop the Life Teen program and then extended the program to Asheville, N.C. She lived her life to the fullest. She spent every sunny summer day at Ligonier Valley Beach, one of her favorite pastimes. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Theodore and Margaret Frisky, and John and May West. In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sisters, Carol W. Hager, of Ligonier, and Barbara S. West, of Latrobe; two nieces, Lynn Sulkey Frederick, of Ligonier, and Beth Wallace and her husband, John, of Stahlstown; a nephew, Eric Sulkey, of Indian Trail, N.C.; the following great-nieces and great-nephews: Taylor Frederick, Rachel Wallace, Camille Wallace, McKenzie Sulkey, Mia Sulkey, Jacob Frederick, J.D. Wallace, Tanner Sulkey and Colby Frederick; and her loving dog, Lucy. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, at 9:30 AM, in Holy Family Roman Catholic Church by Father Fred Byrne, with whom Peggy was a very special and close friend.
