Mary I. O'Barto

Mary I. (McDowell ) O'Barto, 89, of Latrobe, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, with her daughters by her side. Born February 22, 1924 in Derry, she was the daughter of the late Katherine McDowell. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Latrobe, and a graduate of Latrobe High School. In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by her husband Simon C. "Si" O'Barto in 2010, and a brother John McDowell. She is survived by her five children M. Vaneeda Bennett and husband, Robert of Springfield, Virginia, Kathy Monticue, of Latrobe, Michelle Keys and her husband Frank, of Latrobe, Simon O'Barto, of Michigan and Robin Stewart of Latrobe. Her grandchildren include Heidi Lesko, Heather Towers, Angela Klapchar, Suzette Weinell, Megan Keys, Danielle Keys, Tom McKee III, Katie Ruffner, Simon III and Gino O'Barto, Jacob and Nick Stewart. Great grandchildren are Cody, Courteney, Trey, and Teague Weinell, Mitchell, Mathew and Gabrielle Lesko, Gavin and Sydney Towers, Jax and Duke Klapchar, Isabel and Kaleb Trice, Grady and Cael Ruffner, Lilah and Tegan McKee. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and to 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Frederick Funeral Home Inc., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe. The St. John Rosary Altar Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Tuesday in St. John the Evangelist Church. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township.
