John L. Garola

John L. Garola, 81, of Latrobe, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, in Family Hospice and Palliative Care, Pittsburgh. Born Jan. 31, 1933, in Greensburg, he was a son of the late Santino Garola and Teresa (Simonini) Garola. He was a retired carpenter from Elliott Co. and attended Holy Family Roman Catholic Church. He was a former member of the Kingston Club and Cooperstown Club. He was a Navy veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice M. (Smith) Garola in 2001; and two sisters, Lillian Brohosky and Maria Valore. He is survived by his daughter Andrea M. (Garola) Farrell and her husband, Michael V., of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, Megan and Shayne Farrell; three sisters, Dena Tutich of Jeannette, Ida Ghrist, of Greensburg, Marlene Grabenstatter and her husband, Wayne, of Buffalo, N.Y.; many nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, all of which he was very close to; and his beloved dog, Barney. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Daniel C. Mahoney, VF, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Latrobe. The combined funeral detail of local American Legion and VFW members will provide military honors at 8:45 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
