J. Daniel Grobe

J. Daniel Grobe, 66, of Latrobe, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born Feb. 24, 1950, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Albert Grobe and Ruth (Robbins) Grobe. He was a retired physical education teacher at Greater Latrobe School District. He was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Cecilia parishes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Edward J. Skirtich. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Jane F. (Skirtich) Grobe; his beloved children, William Grobe, of Latrobe, Jennifer (Chris) Morgan, of Hampton Township, Elizabeth (Randy) Stas, of Latrobe, Matthew (Mindy) Grobe, of Bozeman, Mont., and Andrew Grobe, of Point Breeze. He is also survived by the joys of his life, his grandchildren, Daniel Vincent and Grace Elizabeth Morgan. He is also survived by his sister, Constance Salkheld, of Maryland; mother-in-law, Dorothy Skirtich; brother-in-law, Paul (Janine) Skirtich; sister-in-law, Joanne (Robert) Saunders; sister-in-law, Janet (Robert) Lefler; and brother-in-law, Michael (Liz) Skirtich, all of Pittsburgh; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Always together, Dan and Jane raised their five children in Latrobe. Dan was happiest with his family, whether it be on the stream or in the woods with his three sons, escorting his two daughters down the aisle at their weddings, playing superhero with his grandson, Daniel, or enjoying nature with his granddaughter, Gracie. He also was blessed with two wonderful sons-in-law, and one wonderful daughter-in-law. Also known as "Mr. Grobe" or "Coach Grobe", to his many students and athletes, he touched so many lives. Mr. Grobe retired in 2012 after teaching health and phys ed. for 39 years at GLSD. He coached 49 athletic teams during his tenure. He was a great man loved by many and will be sadly missed. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, in St. Cecilia Catholic Church, with Father Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB. Burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery, Latrobe.
