Janet L. (Plessinger) Poole lost her courageous battle with leukemia on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Born June 5, 1942, in Latrobe, she was the daughter of the late August and Rose (Kozemchak) Plessinger. Jan was a devoted member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church of Youngstown and was very active in the church women's group. She retired from Fansteel Hydro Carbide in Youngstown and spent her free time traveling, enjoying trips to Alaska, Hawaii, the western United States, and annual vacations to Myrtle Beach. She also looked forward to weekly Mah Jongg games with her dear friends. Jan was a former member of the Professional Secretaries Group and the Business and Professional Women's club. She generously volunteered for many years at Latrobe Area Hospital and Excela Square. Jan also served on the Westmoreland County election board. Jan was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, James “Marc” Poole; and her two brothers, Richard A. and Dennis A. Plessinger. She is survived by her loving husband of more than 54 years, Walt Poole; her daughter, Heather Esher and son-in-law, Marc Esher of York; and her daughter-in-law, Lisa Poole of Latrobe. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, John Poole, Tia Poole, Alexis Esher, and Sidney Esher, and three great-grandsons, Owen, Austin, and Cameron Poole. Family and friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2026, at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4329 Route 982, Youngstown, PA 15650, with her pastor, the Rev. Sarah Rossing officiating. EVERYONE IS ASKED TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH. Interment will follow in St. James Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Youngstown, PA. Jan’s family wishes to send a special thank you to the Mountain View Hillman Cancer Center staff and everyone from the many departments that helped her at Latrobe Hospital. Your kindness and professionalism while Jan was in your care were comforting to the whole family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church.
