Henry J. Sulkey

Henry J. Sulkey, 87, of Latrobe, died Friday, April 7, 2006, in Presbyterian Senior Care, Oakmont. Born April 9, 1918, in Youngstown, Pa., he was a son of the late Joseph M. and Mary Mellicant Sulkey. Mr. Sulkey was secretary of Latrobe Steel Company, from which he retired after 44 years of service. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, began his career as a teacher in New Florence, and then was hired by Latrobe Steel Company. He served on the Latrobe School Authority for 42 years and was a member of the Latrobe Elks for 52 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara B. (Falbo) Sulkey; two brothers, Ernest and Joseph M. Sulkey Jr.; a grandson, Nicholas McCarthy; and his second wife, Claire (Biller) Sulkey. He is survived by three children, Wayne Sulkey and his wife, Elaine, of Matthews, N.C., Jo Anne McCarthy and her husband, Dave, of Millville, N.J., and Bruce Sulkey and his wife, Sandra, of Allison Park; a stepson, Jeff Biller and his wife, Jamie, of Latrobe; 11 grandchildren, Lynn Frederick and her husband, John, Beth Wallace and her husband, John, Eric Sulkey and his wife, Danette, Erin Sulkey, Sean McCarthy, Jamie McCarthy, Kristin McCarthy, Sara Sulkey, Emily Sulkey, Christina Biller and Josh Biller; nine great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jacob, Colby, Rachel, JD, Camille, Tanner, McKenzie and Mia; a brother, Gilbert Sulkey and his wife, Violet (Falbo) Sulkey; and a sister, Mary Huchette and her husband, Paul. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe. The Combined Funeral Detail of American Legion Post 515 and VFW Post 3414 will provide military honors at 9:15 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Vincent Basilica, Latrobe. Interment in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township.
