Harry Reiner, age 85, of Latrobe passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023, in Latrobe.  He was born Oct. 5, 1938, in Rebuck, PA.  

Harry graduated from Thiel College in 1960 and received a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in German. After Thiel he attended Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia in 1960-1961. Later, he earned his Masters in Special Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). Harry loved music. In college he was a member of the Thiel Choir and continued into the Alumni Choir and Trinity Lutheran Church’s Choir. He was a German and Special Education teacher and also an assistant basketball coach in Hollidaysburg. He continued to teach in Derry and Latrobe School Districts where he retired after 30 years of service.  During his time at Latrobe, he was an equipment manager, score keeper and the first to take a group of students to Germany. He was an active member of PSEA and NEA. He received Distinguished Recognition for his Outstanding Contribution to the Association and Education from PSEA. He received a Membership for Life Award with NEA and a Certificate of Merit from Greater Latrobe for his service to students and the community. Harry was a proof reader for the Greensburg Tribune Review in his “spare time”.  He was an avid sports fan of western Pennsylvania teams, loved to drive and enjoyed music and watching planes.  

After retiring, Harry had his own business and was known for his painting and wallpapering throughout the community.  

Harry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara (Wilt): his son Denny and wife Carol (Curnow) of Houston, TX, grandson Dennis and wife Shelly and great-granddaughter Avery, Magnolia, TX and grandson Christopher of Houston TX; his daughter Debbie and husband John Thompson of Lincoln University, PA, granddaughters Lauren and husband Devon, great-grandchildren Kale and Jack of Richlands, NC and Ashley and husband Travis and great-grandchildren, James, Thomas and Charlotte of Harbeson, DE; daughter Diane and husband Scott Wilkinson of Hephzibah, GA,  grandchildren, Logan of Hephzibah, GA, Ryan Wilkinson, Sewickley, PA,  Angelica and husband Jay great-grandson Chase of Johnstown, PA; Autumn, great-grand daughter Amia of Latrobe, PA;  Nick and husband Brady McKeel of Erie, PA; Matthew Wilkinson of Marshfield, MA; Emily Wilkinson of Marshville, MA. Brothers Mark and wife Carol (Smith) of Latrobe, PA; Glenn and wife Grace (Eisenbarth) Latrobe, PA; Paul, of Woodville, Ohio; Roger of Bell Township, PA; Ned Edgecomb, Maine. Sister-in-law, Mary Reiner of Latrobe, PA. A number of nieces and nephews.  

Harry was predeceased by his father and mother Reverend John and Crystal (Snyder) Reiner, sister and brother-in-law Clara and Regis Dunn, brother George Reiner and sister-in-law Deborah (Witt) Reiner.  

The outpouring of messages has made it very clear that Harry was loved by so many for his kind spirt, support, and dedication to his students, friends and family.  

A celebration of Harry’s life will be on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church on 331 Weldon Street Latrobe, PA with the Trinity clergy officiating.  Interment will be private.  

The family wishes to express a heartfelt gratitude to Loyalhanna Continuing Care Campus for the wonderful care and support they provided to Harry during his last few weeks.
