Gary W. Meighen, 65, of Latrobe, formerly of Washington, Pa., died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at home, after a short illness. He was born Nov. 29, 1945, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Dennis and Mary Crouse Meighen. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a sawman by Latrobe Steel with 35 years of service. He was a member of Latrobe Volunteer Fire Department Company No. 3 and 4 with 18 years of service. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three infant sons, Darren, Dale and Gregory; a daughter, Cindy Meighen Calabrace; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tony and Martha Presto. He is survived by his wife, Hala "Dolly" (Presto) Meighen; two children, Gary J. Meighen and Beth Rager and her husband, Mark; six grandchildren, Jordan and Tyler Rager, Jade Meighen, Cassidy Calabrace, Tony and Maria Santella; a brother, Dennis T. Meighen and his wife, Nancy, of Washington, Pa.; a sister, Theresa Harper, of Pittsburgh; as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe. A funeral Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Father John-Mary Tompkins, OSB, officiating. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery, Latrobe. Memorial contributions may be made to Latrobe Volunteer Fire Department Company No. 3 and 4, Ridge Avenue, Latrobe, PA 15650.
