Frank A. “Bud” Jioio

December 8, 1908 — August 20, 2004

Fred A. "Bud" Jioio, of Latrobe, founder of Jioio's Restaurant, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at the age of 95, at his home. He was born Dec. 8, 1908, in Latrobe. Mr. Jioio was a very prominent and active businessman in Latrobe for over 54 years. He loved to come to his restaurant in Latrobe every day to talk with his friends and customers. He loved to offer them his homemade wine, which he made by hand every year. He was also known as the "lollipop man" by all the children who came to the restaurant. He loved to gamble and flew to Atlantic City every month and also traveled to Wheeling, W.Va. He also was known for his homemade sauerkraut, which he made for 50 years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elvira T. Jioio; his parents, Joseph and Angelina Jioio; and brothers and sisters, John Jioio, Katherine Butch, Edward Jioio, Sabatine Jioio and Joseph Jioio. He is survived by his three children, Joseph and wife, Shirley Jioio, of Greensburg, Janice Jioio Petrus, of Latrobe, and Rosalie Jioio Keslar, of Ligonier; his brother, Frank Jioio, and brother-in-law, Alfred Ferraro, both of Latrobe; his special granddaughter, Jeanean Petrus-Smith, and special great-granddaughter, Rheagan Smith; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his very special friend, Nick Moff, who was a most loyal friend and stayed by his side to the end. Friends will be received in the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with family visitation hours from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in St. John's Church, Latrobe. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery. We would also like to thank all of Fred's (Pap's) caregivers and special friends who took such wonderful care of him during his illness. We would also like to thank Dr. Howard Bursch for his willingness and understanding of the family's wishes. And also a special thank-you to all his employees for their hard work and dedication over all his years in business.
