Elmer J. McDonald, 86, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, at home. He was born April 3, 1932, in Latrobe, son of the late Elmer C. McDonald and Sarah Long. He was a retired furnace operator of Kennametal. He was a member of First Church of God, Latrobe. He served as a deacon for the First Church of God, Latrobe, was a member of the American Legion Post 982, Cooperstown Veterans, former PIAA football official Westmoreland County Chapter; and was a bus driver for the Greater Latrobe School District. He was an Army veteran, serving as a military police officer in Korea. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry J. McDonald; and a sister, Betty Fagan. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, D. Jean (Gerhart) McDonald; three children, Diana Lynn McDonald, of Latrobe, Sally K. McDonald, of New Jersey, and Shawn E. McDonald and his wife, Desiree, of Arizona; six grandchildren, Benjamin Amond, Amanda Amond Harr, Amber Ferry, Shawna Hartung, Patrick Ellanburger and Colin McDonald; six great-grandchildren, AubreyHarr, Stacy and Ashley O'Conner, Landon and Carter Hartung and Addelynn Irwin; one sister, Eleanora Schreckengost, of Clarksburg; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, in Frederick Funeral Home Inc., with the Rev. Mike Bobula, officiating. Military honors will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home by the Latrobe-Derry Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery, Latrobe.
